Six young people received their awards from Tony Clark and Paul Hardyman for completing their Portsmouth Football Club (PFC) Course.
They have taught me I can be whatever I want to be’ said one young person.
The young people were referred onto the course by their schools because they were unconfident and were not achieving.
It’s very powerful to see young people being able to turn it around and achieve.’ said Duke their Learning Links Key Worker.
On the course the young people learnt about football based education which embedded; communication skills, cultural diversities, drug/alcohol awareness, team building activities, anti-racism, lifestyle, sports physiology, football scenarios and a tour of Fratton Park.
The course was run for a day each week for 6 weeks.
One young person had very low confidence and wouldn’t say anything in front of people by the end of the course he was enthusiastic and wouldn’t stop talking.’ said Duke.
Since completing the PFC course the young people are now confident about what they want to do and that they can reach their goals.
The PFC course is run by Learning Links in conjunction with Portsmouth Football Club/Portsmouth Study Centre.
